Mrs. President, and My Fellow Citizens: I came to Streator at the invitation of many patriotic societies, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, an aristocratic society, the aristocracy of blood-relationship to men who had performed heroic deeds - true American aristocracy - the only aristocracy in this land of liberty and equal opportunity. The Sons of the American Revolution is a like patriotic and aristocratic society. I came near being an aristocrat myself. When my friend, Major General George Crook, commanded the Department of the Lakes, with headquarters at Chicago, he wrote me that his grand-father was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, and he knew that my grand-father was, and he thought we should organize a Society of the Sons of the Revolution.
