Excerpt from The Medical Register for New England The present edition of The Medical Register includes all the information contained in its predecessors, with the many changes and additions needed to bring the work to the present time; it has been so far enlarged as to embrace reliable information regarding all medical organizations of the regular school throughout the New England Suites. It is hoped that the large amount of information contained in these pages may be found useful to professional men. In compiling the Directory of Physicians the author has felt it to be the safest course to confine himself strictly to the lists of the state medical societies. A wider latitude in this direction might perhaps have been decided on, and the names of many reputable practitioners, vouched for as such by their fellows, have been included. To carry out such a plan, however, would have been a very difficult task. The names of many worthy men would have escaped notice, some questionable names might have been included, and the distinction between worthy and unworthy would, in many cases, have seemed invidious. The lists of the societies, except that of Vermont, are such as arc authorized by the secretaries of such organizations; in that State the author is indebted to a friend for the most accurate catalogue which can be obtained.
