On this particular Sabbath night there were three persons in the hushed little room, all of them absorbed in their pious task; and not a sound was audible beyond the occasional turning over of a leaf, or perhaps (for human nature is frail, and the time passed slowly) a bit of a half-concealed sigh from one of the girls.
