Excerpt from A Descriptive Catalogue of Valuable Works: With Illustrations The following pages contain a Catalogue of the various works published by us, with a few brief notices of same, the voluntary expressions of the press, as a specimen only of a vast number of others received. It will be seen, on examination, that this list embraces valuable works in Theology, Science, Literature, and Art; Text-books for Schools and Colleges, and Miscellaneous Works, Etc., in large variety, the productions of some of the ablest writers and most scientific men of the age, among which will be found those of Chambers, Hugh Miller, Agassiz, Gould, Guyot, Marcou, Dr. Harris, Dr. Wayland, Dr. Williams, Dr. Ripley, Dr. Kitto, Dr. Tweedie, Dr. Choules, Newcomb, Banvard, Bungener, Miall, Archdeacon Hare, and others of like standing and popularity. It has been the undeviating purpose of the subscribers to publish only such works as, on careful examination, were found to possess real merit, having a moral, religious or instructive character, whatever the temptation, in prospect of large sales, to give their "God-speed" to works of a different stamp; and they are happy to know that in this course they have had the decided approval of the American press, as well as of the reading community generally. They will continue, as heretofore, to add constantly to their present extensive list of publications. In addition to works published by themselves, they keep an extensive assortment of works in all departments of trade, which they supply at publishers´ prices. They particularly invite the attention of Booksellers, Travelling Agents, Teachers, School Committees, Librarians, Clergymen, and professional men generally, (to whom a liberal discount is uniformly made,) to their extensive stock. To persons wishing copies of Text-books, for examination, they will be forwarded, per mail or otherwise, on the reception of one half the price of the work desired. Orders from any part of the country attended to with faithfulness and dispatch. They would respectfully suggest that, after examination, this catalogue be preserved for future reference.
