Excerpt from Jimmy Glover His Book The theory that an autobiography should not be written until the writer has reached that period in life generally described as "the sere and yellow" does not appeal to me, as it must be evident that reminiscences which are fifty years old - unless they are historical, or used for purposes of reference - cannot be of any possible interest to a newspaper-ridden generation living in a perpetual fever of excitement for news. Further, the interesting incidents of one´s life are associated with that struggle for existence which is the inevitable fate of any one not born in the purple. Emerging from the ´Fifties I find my mind pregnant with what I am assured is more or less interesting detail (friends are so flattering!), but I have found a courageous publisher - I now only claim a sympathetic public. Every story which follows is authentic, in most cases I have used the real names. As, however, some of my heroes and heroines are still happily living, but unattainable - I have referred to them anonymously, so as to cause no hurt or raise no pain. In several instances I have departed from the chronological sequence of events so as to bring specific reference to various incidents and personalities more or less together.
