First, complaint has been made about my treatment of the Marriage Question. On this I have nothing to recant, though much more to say. Perhaps I may ask my readers to wait for a future occasion, when I should like to treat at length this important subject, which is here referred to incidentally, because in the Gospel itself the allusion is only incidental. Second, the principal newspaper of the English Church, the Guardian, refers with a pious horror to my temerity in venturing to put words, all derived from the immediate situation described in the Gospel, and yet my own words, into the mouth of the mater dolorosa.
