Excerpt from Vox Clamantis The little book now offered to the public was written during the phenomenal winter of 1890-91 at Lahore, the capital of the Punjaub. It grew under the writer´s hands, and was not the result of any preconceived plan on his part, and he begs his readers´ indulgence for the imperfections with which it abounds. In writing it he found himself led into many ideas which were new to himself, though they may not be new to all his readers. The name given to the book is not euphonious. It has been chosen partly as committing the writer to nothing, partly because he hoped it might serve to call the attention of some to a work which cannot but be regarded as ambitious, if not presumptuous.
