Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from The History of the First New Jersey Cavalry, (Sixteenth Regiment, New Jersey Volunteers) In preparing and presenting this work to the public, and particularly to the surviving soldiers of the regiment and their friends, the publisher has aimed to offer an attractive volume that should preserve in a durable form the record of the first regiment of volunteer cavalry that entered the field and was the last to leave it, and whose history from the time it was fairly organized and equipped was one of continuous service and brilliant achievements. This regiment was recruited three times to the full maximum and as often melted away before the enemy´s fire, and disease and exposure incident to the campaign. The author was an officer of the staff, and participated fully in all whereof he writes, while his style is exceedingly instructive, abounding in vivid description and entertaining narrative. Desiring to make the book as perfect as possible, the publisher has added an appendix, consisting of the official list from the Adjutant-General´s office of the name, rank and promotions of every member of the regiment from the time of its organization to the close of the war, making in all nearly three thousand names, together with a record of casualties of every kind so far as known. This has been done with great care and labor, and it is hoped correctly. There is also given a list of battles in which the regiment was engaged, with the date and place of action.
