He was the third son of Benjamin Harrison, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and subsequently Governor of Virginia. Benjamin Harrison was one of the earliest and most conspicuous patriots, and the most active, devoted, and fearless political leaders of the Revolution. His services during and after that eventful period, were inferior in importance to those of but few of his compatriots.
