The present volume deals mainly with the origin and history of the North American type - one of the most interesting chapters in our pomology. The assistance of many pomologists and cultivators is gratefully acknowledged, more especially of Matthew Crawford, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. A number of the illustrations are borrowed, for which acknowledgment is made in the List of Illustrations.
