Produktbeschreibung

Excerpt from Studies in Poetry William Blake was born November 28, 1757, in Broad Street, Carnaby Market, London. His father was a respectable hosier, and would have brought up the boy to his own business. But Art had laid on him her overmastering hand, and he was her faithful servant all his life long. His art, as painter and engraver, would be a worthy subject, but it is not mine. What his lyrical poetry was as literature, and its relation to the general movement of poetry in England, is the subject of this essay. He became a mystic, a poet, a designer in colour and in black and white, and he considered himself to be something of a prophet. He was a prophet as a poet is a prophet. He touched matters which lay on the outskirts of the realm of pure poetry - political, social, and religious - but he touched them with a poet´s passion. He belongs to those poets who, before the outbreak of the Revolution in France in 1789, set forward in verse some of the revolutionary ideas. Neither class, caste, nor privilege existed for Blake. Kings and the aristocrats who supported the class of kings represented by Louis xiv., Blake denounced as villains.
