Produktbeschreibung
Languages of the Indo-European family have certainly played the dominant role in Europe throughout historical times. Yet lost languages such as Tartessian, Iberian, Etruscan, Rhaetian, and Pelasgian, as well as present-day Basque and the Finno-Ugric languages give some indication of a greater linguistic diversity in prehistoric times. This volume pursues the aim of establishing more precisely the linguistic situation in Europe in times before the advent of writing, and investigating the influences of prehistoric languages on individual Indo-European languages. The essays in this volume, apart from two papers on archaeological questions, are concerned with linguistic problems. They were written by Robert S.P. Beekes, Dirk Boutkan, Ivo Hajnal, Alexander Häusler, Petri Kallio, Jorma Koivulehto, Thomas Lindner, Frederik Kortlandt, Norbert Oettinger, Oswald Panagl, Colin Renfrew, Helmut Rix, William R. Schmalstieg, Peter Schrijver, Klaus Strunk, Jürgen Untermann, and Theo Vennemann.
